BVI 2025
2025 marks our fourth-year sailing in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) aboard our yacht, sv Breezin. Every year she does not disappoint in providing life long family memories and fun.
July, 2025
All the family looks forward to our time in the BVI. The challenge is to keep the trips fresh and this year was probably the best. The big event for this year was my (Brian) 70th birthday celebrations. It seemed that almost everyday we had a birthday party but the big event was held at a beach restaurant, Coca Maya. Before great food, drinks and dancing, we had a photographer take family pictures. We stumbled into this decision and it was one of the best decisions of the trip.
Sixteen family members gathered for my birthday so we chartered our sister ship, Cool Breeze, to accommodate everyone. Along with my three siblings, spouses and six grandchildren were sister, Tina; niece Tillery and her spouse Joe. It was a lot of fun!
In addition to the beach party, we had a 50’s party aboard Breezin in honor of my 1955 birthday year. It was a blast, I’m not sure we’ve danced so much.
Each year as the grandkids have advanced their swimming skills, we’ve tried to add new things to entertain them on the boat. Last year the older ones really wanted to jump from the back roof. We weren’t sure they were ready and the parents certainly weren’t. This year the parents were still on the fence, so Pops took it in hand and jumped with them. It was huge fun and what pride to see the youngest, that couldn’t swim the first year he was on the trip, jump from the top too.
Another new event for this year was a guided conch (pronounced conk) snorkeling trip on Anegada Island with Sherwin. He was an excellent guide that taught us that although conch look like slugs, they are quite intelligent. Example: if you toss a dead conch shell into the ocean that has been killed by a human, other conch will avoid the area. That is the reason that the conch fisherman in Anegada pile their conch shells in heaps so they don’t spoil their fishing grounds.
This year we were in the BVI and USVI for five weeks. In addition to a welcome slew of return fun loving revelers, we were privileged to have some new guests join us including Matt and his sons Makaio and Kainoa; Jennifer & Giselle; Bailee & Chad. Great crew additions!
Has Breezin been financially successful? Only if you measure it in memories made…...and we’re ok with that.
Toodle-oo,
Brian and JoDon
